Walk-to-School Day: October 9, 2003

We are partnering with the Ohio County Board of Education and the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston to sponsor Walk to School Day. Walk to School Day is an energizing event, reminding parents and children alike of the simple joy of walking to school. This is an awareness event that will hopefully act as a catalyst for on-going efforts to increase walking and bicycling all of the time.

The Youth Physical Activity Team is excited to announce county-wide participation in the Walk to School Day event. We are the only site in the state of WV to have student and parent participants from public, private and parochial schools along with health care professionals, community leaders, and the support of law enforcement personnel.

SPARK In-service for Ohio County PE Teachers

Sport Play and Active Recreation for Kids (SPARK) is the most widely researched Physical Education Curriculum.

SPARK is designed to increase Moderate-Vigorous Physical Activity in and out of school. SPARK argues that it is more important to focus on the "process" of physical fitness and encourage children to enjoy a lifestyle of regular physical activity than to focus on fitness testing.
